Abstract

|
Most of the acute polyneuropathies are autoimmune and demyelinative in type. Acute axonal polyneuropathies are rare and usually they are due to toxins. Recently, however, Feasbe and his colleagues have drawn attention to a nontoxic form. Unlike
the
usual form of the disease, patients had in excitable motor nerves and signs of severe muscle denervation, and lacked the characteristic decrease in conduction velocities and conduction block.
We report, with review of the literature, five patients with acute axonal from of Guillain-Barre Syndrome who were diagnosed with clinical and electrophysiological studies.
